Keith Campbell Human Genome Project Scientist

Keith Campbell's attention in cloning mammals was enthused by work done by Karl Illmensee and John Gurdon.

Working at the Roslin Institute since 1990, Campbell become concerned with the cloning efforts guide by Ian Wilmut. In July 1995 Keith Campell and Bill Ritichie succeed in produce a pair of lambs, Megan and Morag from developing cells. Then, in 1996, a team lead by Ian Wilmut with Keith Campbell as the main (66% of the credit) contributer surprised the world by productively cloning a sheep from mature mammary cells. Dolly, a Finn Dorset sheep, named after the singer Dolly Parton, was born in 1996 and lived to be 6 years old. Campbell has been credited a key role because he had the vital idea of co-ordinating the stage of the "cell cycle" of the somatic cells and eggs.
